UAE Authorities Urge Muslims to Perform Eclipse Prayer on September 7
Abu Dhabi: The UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat has called on Muslims to observe the special Eclipse Prayer (Salat al-Kusuf) on Sunday, September 7, coinciding with the rare lunar eclipse visible across the UAE. According to the International Astronomical Centre, the eclipse will begin at 8:27 PM, peak at 10:12 PM, and end at 11:57 PM.
The UAE Council for Fatwa emphasized that the Eclipse Prayer, recommended for both men and women, is a prophetic tradition observed whenever cosmic events occur—whether the eclipse is partial or total. The prayer, typically two rakʿahs with longer Qur’anic recitations and two bowings per rakʿah, can be performed in mosques, homes, or any permissible place of prayer. Scholars also encourage linking it with acts of charity, remembrance, and seeking forgiveness.
This spiritual call highlights the importance of reflection and community connection during extraordinary natural events.
